Celebrating our 70 year anniversary, Pernicano's first opened in 1946 as San Diego's first Italian restaurant. George Pernicano brought his Sicilian roots to the west coast as well as his family recipes. George stood on the street in front of his first location on University and handed out slices of pizza to expose San Diego to the concept of the Italian pie. Today that art has developed across the city into magnitudes of urban, trendy, authentic and creative pizza places.
Now with still a few locations in San Diego, Pernicano's Ristorante is a San Diego family favorite.
The famous handlebar mustache
Pernicano had the best handlebar mustache this side of Rollie Fingers, which, for years, he had insured for $50,000 with Lloyd’s of London.
